How to care for your jewelry
Your jewelry deserves a little extra care. Following these simple guidelines will help protect your pieces and preserve their beauty for as long as possible. Because every material is unique, please review the care instructions that best match your jewelry.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air, moisture, lotions, and other substances. Store your silver jewelry in a cool, dry place, preferably inside an airtight pouch or jewelry box. Gently polish it with a soft silver-polishing cloth when needed.
Remove sterling silver jewelry before swimming, showering, exercising or using household cleaning products. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners, which may scratch or damage the finish.
Gold-Plated Jewelry
Gold-plated jewelry should be handled gently to help preserve its finish. Apply perfume, lotion, hairspray and cosmetics before putting on your jewelry, and allow them to dry completely.
Avoid wearing gold-plated pieces while swimming, bathing, exercising or cleaning. After wearing, gently wipe the jewelry with a soft, dry cloth and store it separately from other pieces to help prevent scratches.
Gold plating may naturally soften or fade over time with regular wear. Proper care can help extend the life of the finish.
Beaded Jewelry
Handle beaded jewelry carefully and avoid pulling, twisting or overstretching it. To help preserve the life of your stretch bracelet, gently roll it on and off your wrist rather than stretching it over your hand. Remove beaded bracelets and necklaces before sleeping, swimming, bathing or exercising.
Keep beads away from perfume, hairspray, lotions and household chemicals. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and store flat or separately to prevent tangling and scratching.
Gemstones and Natural Stones
Natural gemstones can vary in color, texture and markings, making each piece beautifully unique. Some stones are more delicate or porous than others and may be affected by moisture, chemicals, heat or prolonged sunlight.
Avoid soaking gemstone jewelry. Gently wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth if necessary, and dry it immediately. Do not use harsh jewelry cleaners unless they are specifically approved for that particular gemstone.
Leather Jewelry
Keep leather jewelry away from water, perfumes, lotions and cleaning products. Remove it before bathing, swimming or exercising.
If needed, wipe the leather gently with a clean, dry cloth. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Magnetic Clasps
Open magnetic clasps by holding the clasp itself rather than pulling on the chain, cord or beads. Check the clasp periodically to ensure it remains secure.
Magnetic jewelry may not be appropriate for individuals with pacemakers or certain implanted medical devices. Anyone with an implanted medical device should consult their healthcare provider before wearing magnetic jewelry.
General Jewelry Care
Put your jewelry on after applying perfume, lotion, cosmetics and hairspray. Remove it before swimming, bathing, sleeping, exercising or performing household chores.
Store each piece separately in a jewelry pouch, box or soft compartment to help prevent scratching, tangling and damage. Handle clasps, chains, beads and handmade components gently.
With proper care, your Simply Elegant by Sisters jewelry can remain a beautiful part of your collection for years to come.
